Week Three

This has been a busy week for the Kindergarten children. They have started to work in teams and rotate through activities. The children have done an excellent job and need to be commended for their efforts.

A special thanks to all parents for their quick response to notes sent home and for taking the time to attend our Kindy Information Session.

Assembly

Today was our first Junior Assembly. A couple of students from each Kindy group will receive merit awards at these assemblies. Parents of these children will be notified and are encouraged to attend, especially if it is not their rostered Kindy day. Children wear school uniform and sit with their class.

Literacy

We are learning to recognise our name, this includes finding our name tag on our bag hook, finding our names inside the classroom, and playing name games during our mat sessions. They have also been learning the initial sound their name starts with e.g. Andrew starts with A A A. Please help your child to practise writing their name on their placemats, that were given out during the Parent information session. These are written in the font that Wattle Grove follows.

Over the next three weeks the students will be learning one initial letter sound per week. They are as follows:

Apple starts with Aa - Aa – Aa (already taught)

Snake starts with Ss - Ss - Ss.

Turtle starts with Tt - Tt – Tt.

Focus is on the initial phonic sound, NOT the letter name.

Numeracy

We are learning to identify the written numerals 1 (completed) to 3 and matching concrete objects using one to one correspondence. The children are also learning to touch count each object only once when counting “How many?”

Science

To link with our theme for first term “I Am Special” the focus for science will be our five senses. We will be exploring how our senses help us live, learn, identify and interact with the world around using the sense of sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell. Senses are also very important to our well-being. Children will be involved in investigations using their senses.

Health (Changing Health Acting Together)

This term children will be learning about pedestrian safety. For example, knowing how to cross the road safely and understanding what various road signs and signals mean. Next week, we will be outside in our outdoor play area practicing how to cross the road safely using our road mats and signs and using our helmets when riding our bikes.

HASS

Thank you once again to the families who have already brought in their family photos. Students will use these for a Speaking and Listening task. The children are very excited to tell their friends and teachers all about their family.

We look forward to getting to know everyone better and having fun learning together!

Welcome to Kindergarten

Hello and Welcome to the Kindy Class of 2021!

I am Mrs Tania Kealley and I will be Room 1’s Class Teacher. Mrs Rikki White will be the Class Teacher on Wednesday. Mrs Pauline Palmer will be the Education Assistant in Room 1. We are so excited to be teaching your child this year. Welcome back to families who have other children at Wattle Grove Primary and a warm welcome to those who are new to the school. We are looking forward to a productive year with our 2021 Kindergarten students.

It is wonderful to see children settling into the routines at school, after a delayed start to the year. Starting school is a big step for children (and parents) so please don’t hesitate to speak with us if you have questions, concerns, or information you would like to share.

A few Kindergarten details for your information:

Our Room has two groups

BLUE GROUP attends school on MONDAYS and THURSDAYS and ALTERNATE WEDNESDAYS.

RED GROUP attends school on TUESDAYS and FRIDAYS and ALTERNATE WEDNESDAYS.

School times on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are 8.45am to 3.05pm. On Tuesday school finishes early at 2.30pm.

The classroom doors will open at 8.30am. If you arrive prior to 8.30am you must wait outside the classroom with your child. If someone other than yourself is picking your Kindergarten child up, we will need a written note on the day or ring and inform the front office who will pass on the information to us. If this is going to be a regular arrangement (e.g. grandparents, day care, family friend) you will need to add their names to your child’s contact list at the office).

Each day your child will need to bring recess and lunch, a drink bottle of water (no cordial or juice please). Children are not to bring toys to school unless it is required for an activity.

We are looking forward to getting to know you all.

Week Ten

It is hard to believe that it is already week 10 of Term 3! It has been an extremely busy term and all our children have worked really hard....
